When is a pediatric eye exam recommended?
A pediatric eye examination is not only important when complaints appear. Regular check-ups help to detect hidden problems in time.
We recommend it if:
- The child is about to start school, good vision is essential for learning
- He often squints, rubs his eyes, and complains of headaches.
- Looking closely at a book or screen
- Unsteady in movement, seems clumsy in play or sports
- You want your child's performance not to depend on their vision
- He just wants to make sure everything is okay.
Most eye exams are recommended from the age of 4, but certain procedures (such as tear duct bypass) can be performed from newborn age.
When is the test not recommended?
Pediatric ophthalmology examinations are safe for all children. The only time it is worth postponing the examination is in the event of an acute eye infection or fever.
Regular check-ups not only serve the child's health, but also give the parent peace of mind: you can be sure that you have done everything for your child's future.

- Bring a favorite toy or book: this can provide a sense of security while waiting.
- Eating and resting: it is good if the child has rested and eaten before the examination, so that he or she cooperates more easily.
- Contact lenses: if the child wears contact lenses, it is advisable to remove them 1–2 days before the examination so that the measurements are accurate.
The examination is painless and child-friendly, and the presence of parents ensures a calm environment throughout.
The purpose of the examination is to provide a complete picture of your child's vision and eye health. The process takes place in a friendly atmosphere, where each step is patiently explained to both the child and the parent.

Featured treatment
Tear duct syringing in children
A Tear duct syringing in children is a procedure used to check whether the tear drainage system is open and, in some cases, to improve the flow through the tear duct.
Treatment details
Tear duct syringing is often needed for children with persistent watery eyes, sticky discharge or recurring eye infections. During the procedure, the paediatric ophthalmologist uses a sterile fluid to check whether the tear duct is properly open, or whether there is a narrowing or blockage. Blocked tear ducts in childhood can be a common problem, especially in babies, so it is important to identify the exact cause of the symptoms in order to choose the right treatment. Based on the results, the paediatric ophthalmologist will recommend the next steps, which may depend on the child's age and the cause of the symptoms. In the case of persistent watery eyes or recurring discharge, it is worth booking a paediatric eye examination .
Problems with tear duct drainage most often occur in babies and young children . With a congenital blocked tear duct, watery eyes or discharge may appear from birth and in many cases gradually resolve during the first year of life. If symptoms persist after the age of 1or develop later, a paediatric eye examination is recommended. Whether tear duct syringing is needed is always decided by the specialist based on the child's age, symptoms and the condition of the tear duct.
