Sterile surgical conditions
Operating room safety is of paramount importance in any healthcare facility, especially when performing precision procedures such as eye surgery. At Saint James Eye Center, we have strict protocols in place to ensure patient safety. These rules ensure that all surgical procedures are performed with maximum safety and the highest level of hygiene.
The sterility of the surgical environment is crucial to avoid infections. We use the most modern sterilization procedures in our operating rooms, which comply with international standards. We constantly monitor and update the technologies used to maintain a clean and safe environment. For detailed information, please visit our website: Sterile surgical conditions.
Multi-step identification system
Patient safety is guaranteed not only by the surgical conditions, but also by accurate identification procedures. To avoid misunderstandings and possible errors, each patient is identified in the following way:
- Upon arrival The patient receives a wristband with their most important data on it. The data is discussed with the patient.
- In the operating room preparation room A second check is performed, where the patient must verbally confirm their name, date of birth and the planned procedure.
- In the operating room the verification process is repeated again, thus eliminating any misunderstandings and ensuring that the appropriate intervention takes place.
- Marking the eye to be operated on: In order to guarantee even greater safety, the eye to be operated on is clearly marked with an arrow. Although in most cases both eyes are operated on at the same time, this marking system further reduces the possibility of error.
