Comfortable reading and mobile use

Reading glasses surgery, sharp vision at all distances

Nearsightedness is a problem for many people over the age of 40. Constantly using reading glasses is inconvenient and expensive, but today there are several safe procedures that can help get rid of it.

At our clinic, we work exclusively with CE and FDA-approved technologies, with thousands of successful procedures behind us.

Who do we recommend reading glasses surgery for?

Reading glasses surgery is recommended for those who want to avoid switching between near and far glasses on a daily basis and are looking for a long-term solution for comfortable, glasses-free vision.

We recommend it if:

When is reading glasses surgery not recommended?

For safety reasons, surgery may not be the best option. In such cases, our doctors will recommend an alternative.

Most common reasons for exclusion:

The exact answer is always given by a detailed, personal suitability assessment. Based on this, we determine whether laser or lens surgery is a better solution for you.

Process

Step by step: the process of reading glasses surgery

A suitability assessment will determine whether laser monovision treatment or corrective lens surgery is the best solution for you. Both procedures are safe and proven. We will explain their steps separately below.

The surgery is always preceded by a detailed, painless examination. During this, our specialists check the general condition of the eye, the thickness of the cornea, the intraocular pressure and the retina. Based on the results, they determine whether you are suitable for the procedure and which treatment will provide the best results.

Period: ≈ 60–90 minutes

The aptitude test will include the following:

  • Accurate measurement of diopter, cylinder, and corneal thickness.
  • Tear film and pupil examination (with pupil dilation).
  • Slit lamp examination of the anterior segment and fundus (pupil dilation with eye drops).
  • Medical consultation: discussing results, answering questions.

Practical information:

  • It is recommended to remove soft contact lenses 3 days before the examination, and hard lenses 3 weeks before.
  • Blurred vision may occur for 2-3 hours due to pupil dilation; avoid driving during this period
  • Bring your previous eye tests with you, if you have them.

Output:

  • It is a clear decision which treatment can help you get rid of reading glasses.
  • Personalized treatment plan and timing.

Both treatments are performed with local anesthetic eye drops, completely painless. The patient is awake throughout the procedure and can go home with an escort after a short rest.

Period: ≈ 15–20 minutes for both eyes

If laser monovision treatment is performed:

  1. We reshape the cornea with a laser: we adjust one eye to distance and the other to near.
  2. The actual laser time is only a few seconds.
  3. The treatment is quick, non-contact, and vision improves noticeably the next day.

If premium lens surgery is performed:

  • Small, about 2 The natural lens is removed through a 1 mm incision.
  • In its place, we implant a premium multifocal or trifocal intraocular lens.
  • The procedure takes about 10–15 minutes per eye and provides sharper vision the day after surgery.

Please note this:

  • Do not use makeup, perfume, or hair products containing alcohol for 3-4 days before surgery.
  • We recommend that you avoid drinking alcohol 24 hours before and 48 hours after surgery.
  • Bring quality sunglasses due to light sensitivity.
  • Arrange for transportation home.

The recovery process depends on whether you have laser monovision or premium lens surgery. In both cases, recovery is quick and predictable, with most patients experiencing sharper vision the next day.

Period: ≈ 24-72 hours

After laser monovision treatment:

  • Mild tearing, stinging, or sensitivity to light may occur for the first 24 to 72 hours.
  • Rest with your eyes closed for 3–4 hours after surgery.
  • Use the prescribed eye drops according to the protocol.
  • Many people return to office work within 3 days.
  • Easy walking the next day; intensive sports after about 1 week.
  • Swimming/sauna: typically recommended after 4 weeks.
  • Eye makeup: generally safe after 3 weeks.

After vision correction lens surgery:

  • Temporary blurriness, light sensitivity, or tearing are normal in the first few days.
  • Do not rub your eyes and avoid bending or lifting heavy objects.
  • Hair washing and contact with water are recommended after approx. 1 week, eye makeup after approx. 5-6 weeks.
  • Work: You can usually return to office work after 2–3 days.
  • Driving: typically after the first check-up, with medical approval.
  • Swimming/sauna: typically recommended after 5-6 weeks.

Every patient heals at a different rate, so always follow the instructions given by your doctor. Our doctors are available throughout your recovery and will answer any questions you may have.

For safety and lasting results, all patients undergo mandatory follow-up examinations. These are short, painless check-ups where our doctors check the healing status, the results of the surgery, and answer all your questions.

Period: ≈ 1-3 months

After laser monovision treatment:

  • 24-hour control: We check the start of healing on the first day.
  • 1 week: examination of vision quality and corneal regeneration.
  • 2 months: Checking the alignment of the monovision and fine-tuning if necessary.
  • 6 month: long-term monitoring, confirmation of final results.

After lens surgery:

  • 24-hour control: checking the position of the artificial lens and wound healing.
  • 5-6 weeks: final control to confirm long-term results.

Our doctors will guide you through the entire healing process and are available at any time for any questions or uncertainties. The check-ups are included in the price of the surgery, so there is no additional cost.

Personalized treatment

How is reading glasses surgery performed?

The reason for wearing reading glasses is the natural aging of the eye, the decrease in the elasticity of the lens (presbyopia). As a result, the eye is less and less able to focus up close. Modern ophthalmology offers two proven solutions to treat the problem.

Laser monovision correction

In monovision treatment, the two eyes are adjusted differently: one eye is corrected for distance and the other for near. The brain adapts in a short time, and both eyes together provide the full field of vision.

Premium multifocal or trifocal intraocular lens implantation

In this case, the natural lens of the eye is replaced with a special, multi-focal artificial lens. This artificial lens is able to provide near, intermediate and distance vision simultaneously, thus eliminating the need for reading glasses.

Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions about reading glasses surgery

We have collected the most frequently asked questions so that you know exactly what to expect during the examination, treatment and recovery.

After the age of 40–45, the lens of the eye loses its elasticity, making it increasingly difficult to focus up close. This is called presbyopia, or old age.

There are two proven methods: laser monovision treatment and premium multifocal/trifocal intraocular lens surgery. A detailed suitability assessment will show you which is the best solution for you.

No. Both laser and lens surgery are completely painless with local anesthetic eye drops. At most, a slight feeling of pressure or a foreign body sensation may occur for a short time.

Laser monovision: a few minutes, lens surgery: about 10–15 minutes per eye.

After laser treatment, most patients return to their daily routine within 1–2 days. After lens surgery, vision is sharper the next day, and full stabilization takes a few days.

Yes, most patients are completely glasses-free after treatment. However, reading glasses may be required over time to read very small print. This is due to the natural aging of the eye, not a defect in the surgery.

Temporary sensitivity to light, tearing, or mild blurring may occur, but these will resolve within a few days. Serious complications are rare, thanks to the sterile operating room and modern technology.

Usually after the next day's check-up, with medical approval.

Lens surgery does, as the natural lens is replaced with a new artificial lens, so cataracts cannot develop later. The laser solution does not provide protection against this.

Yes, the cost of the surgery can be paid in monthly instalments that can be planned in advance. Health insurance settlement is also available.
